Incoming links are important
What search engines aim to do is provide relevant and reliable results for every search. For most search engines, the greatest measure of reliability of a website is the quality and quantity of incoming links. An incoming link is a link from another website linking to your own website. You need to get as many incoming links as possible. But not all incoming links are equal.
For example, if you are advertising your hotel, a link from a website about car engines will not be very valuable. On the other hand, a link from another hotel or a car rental company nearby will carry more weight, as it is related to your website. Links are better if they come from relevant websites.
Another factor that counts is the reliability of the website the link comes from. A link from cnn.com carries much more significance than a link from theshoparoundthecorner.com.gr. Yet another very important factor is the anchor text of the link. This should also be relevant to your website and contain some keywords.
How do I get incoming links?
There are several ways to get incoming links to your website. You can use email campaigns for link exchange, get a link exchange form on your website, write articles linking back to your website, advertise and even buy packages of incoming links in great numbers! All these methods have their pros and cons, some of these methods are permitted by search engines but some others (like buying links) are not, which means that if you use a forbidden method your website may be penalized and drop in rankings!
